Not to be confused with Windows Server 2016

Windows 2016 was a release of the Microsoft Windows operating system released in 2016 as the name suggests. It brought new features to the Windows 10 shell that were greatly appreciated, such as a revamped Cortana and redesigned Control Panel. Although being a relatively small update, the amount of bugs and issues fixed made it possibly the most stable version of Windows ever, being the de-facto version for lower-end PCs and laptops even after the release of Windows 11.

When Windows 10 was released in 2015, there was major criticism as the OS did not run smoothly on lower-end devices and computers which upgraded from Windows 7. There was also criticism due to the fact that Windows 10 was going to be the last version of Windows, and that lower-end computers were going to stay this way forever. To address these criticisms, Microsoft released Windows 2016 as a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 users who met the reduced system requirements.
