Startup Sound

Windows 17 Windows 17 icon (codenamed Pluto) was the 17th major version of Windows and the fifth in the Windows Quantum series. It was primarily intended to be a refinement of Windows 16, mostly clearing out the interface and updating a few features such as a regulated Copilot to comply with artificial intelligence laws. It also added many more features to refine the experience. Its reaction ranged from positive to mixed. It was not the major update that some had expected based on rumors, nor was it unstable. In that sense, it was considered a good, but not significant, update.

  • EdgeQ300.
  • Windows login now supports either Facial or Iris System.

Development[]

Development began in late 2042. At first, it was intended to be simply a minor update but quickly spiraled out of control and soon became its own version, similar to what happened with Windows 11.

However, Bill Gates, Microsoft co-founder, passed away on November 22, 2043, at age 88. Microsoft announced three days of mourning, and development was paused for these three days.

On June 11, 2043, Microsoft showcased Windows 17 to the world. Microsoft announced that Windows 16 and Windows 15 users would be able to update for free. Microsoft also announced that older 64-bit machines would still be able to run Windows. To allow older computers to update, Microsoft kept the system requirements mostly the same as in Windows 16. This was more likely a reaction to the end of rapid consumerism, as "new" computers were simply made from recycled older parts.

On June 22, The first insider build came out on the Dev channel. Windows 17 received a positive reception. The system would receive five feature updates over its lifecycle.
